Truck Fitment & Install Guide

Here at Outpost Campers we are on a mission to create the world’s most capable truck camper at a great value. The Outpost 6.5 is our debut truck camper in pursuit of achieving this goal. This article will help you understand which trucks the Outpost 6.5 will fit on and show you how easy it is to take on and off your truck.

Which trucks will the Outpost 6.5 Fit?

Take a look at the above video to take an in-depth look at which trucks the Outpost 6.5 will fit as well as a rundown on how to load and unload the camper.

Weight

Weighing in at 1558 lbs dry the Outpost 6.5 is designed to fit half ton and larger trucks. With this camper being completely gas free the only change in weight when wet and loaded will be gear, people, and water weight (20 gallons of water storage comes standard). Always double check your truck’s payload to ensure you are within range.

Bed Size

The Outpost 6.5 is designed to fit a modern truck with a standard 6.5’ bed with the tailgate up and shorter truck beds with the tailgate down or off. The advantage of being able to keep the tailgate on is that you can secure gear on the sides of the camper above the wheel wells such as skis, it’s another way to lock the camper using the tailgate itself, a lot of trucks these days are integrating steps into the tailgate and finally you gain a nice porch area for taking off your shoes and hanging out. We considered the center of gravity heavily while designing the layout of the camper and are proud to state the our 23.5” center of gravity means that your truck will still drive great with the camper on whether you have a long, standard, or short bed.

How to load and unload the camper.

Unloading and loading the Outpost 6.5 is a breeze thanks to the 4 mechanical jacks, access port holes, and ratcheting tie down straps that come standard with every build. Unlike some of our competition we understand that you want a truck camper for the flexibility of taking it on and off your truck and therefore we’ve included the tools to do this job standard, at no additional cost. Watch the video above to get a quick run down on how to take on and off your camper. If you have any other questions please reach out to us at [email protected]

What are slide in truck campers?

Slide in truck campers represent a wide category of truck campers that have the ability to be loaded and unloaded into the back of a pickup truck with the use of jacks that connect to the camper. These are a great option for people who want the reliability and versatility of a pickup truck with 4×4 capabilities but want the comfort and durability of a well-insulated camper with all of the systems needed for camping on day one. Unlike other options out there such as vans and expedition vehicles the Outpost 6.5 can disconnect from the truck in a matter of minutes, making it a super versatile option now and down the road for a variety of scenarios.

The Outpost 6.5 is a composite hard-sided truck camper that utilizes the same shell technology that has been tested at the North Pole! This means that it is incredibly well insulated with an insulation value of R12 as well as a virtually condensation free design. It is these two qualities that make the Outpost 6.5 a true four season camper and present a solution to something that has plagued a lot of campers for ages, condensation. The design and attention to detail in our builds ensures that your camper won’t deal with these issues that most every other camper on the market suffer from.
