The Outpost 6.5 is back for 2026 with a suite of upgrades designed to push your adventures further. Our mission remains the same: building the world’s most capable truck campers at an incredible value. The latest model doubles down on that promise, introducing integrated optional add-ons for even more utility and refined interior touches for lasting comfort on the trail.
Beyond the interior refinements, the Outpost 6.5 features an optimized shell design that balances strength with a lightweight profile. At a dry weight of approximately 1,560 lbs, which includes a 5kWh battery in the standard build, it is specifically engineered for some half-ton and larger trucks. The design is so compact and efficient that owners of many modern GM and Ford trucks can even keep their tailgates closed with the camper installed.
Take a look at the video below to understand how the Outpost 6.5 matches your specific truck and setup requirements.
Which trucks will the Outpost 6.5 Fit?
In the sections below we will break down the two key considerations for determining whether or not the Outpost 6.5 will fit your truck!
Payload
Weighing in at 1,560 lbs dry the Outpost 6.5 is designed to fit half ton and larger trucks. With this camper being completely propane free the only change in weight when wet and loaded will be gear, people, and water weight (20 gallons of water weighing roughly 170 lbs when full comes standard). Always double check your truck’s payload (often found on a sticker inside the driver side door frame) to ensure you are within range.
Bed Size
The Outpost 6.5 is designed to fit a full-size truck with a standard 6.5’ bed with the tailgate up and shorter truck beds with the tailgate down or off. The advantage of being able to keep the tailgate on with the ability to close is that you can secure gear on the sides of the camper above the wheel wells, it’s another way to lock the camper using the tailgate itself, a lot of trucks these days are integrating steps into the tailgate and you gain a nice porch area for taking off your shoes and hanging out. With our power out port conveniently located on the tailgate you can also cook outside on the tailgate with the portable induction cooktop that comes standard.
We considered the center of gravity heavily while designing the layout of the camper and are proud to state the our 23.5” center of gravity (approximate measurement from front wall of camper) means that your truck will still drive great with the camper on whether you have a long, standard, or short bed.
To determine how the Outpost 6.5 will fit on your truck check your bed dimensions against the images above. The key measurements are the length of your truck bed, the width between wheel wells, the height from the bottom of your bed to the top of the bed rails, and the height from the bottom of the bed to the top of your truck cab.
How to load and unload the camper.
Unloading and loading the Outpost 6.5 is a breeze thanks to the 4 mechanical jacks, access port holes (shown above), and ratcheting tie down straps that come standard with every build. Unlike some of our competition we understand that you want a truck camper for the flexibility of taking it on and off your truck and therefore we’ve included the tools to do this job standard, at no additional cost. What are slide in truck campers?
Slide in truck campers represent a wide category of truck campers that have the ability to be loaded and unloaded into the back of a pickup truck with the use of jacks that connect to the camper. These are a great option for people who want the reliability and versatility of a pickup truck with 4×4 capabilities but want the comfort and durability of a well-insulated camper with all of the systems needed for camping on day one. Unlike other options out there such as vans and expedition vehicles the Outpost 6.5 can disconnect from the truck in a matter of minutes, making it a super versatile option now and down the road for a variety of scenarios.
The Outpost 6.5 is a composite hard-sided truck camper that utilizes 100% recycled plastic core in order to create a super durable shell technology that also has industry leading insulation performance! It boasts a thermal transfer mitigating construction with a high insulation value for four-season camping.
